Tuning & Pitch Services
The foundation of piano care.
Every visit includes a free inspection, light cleaning, and minor adjustments. We never recommend services that aren't needed.
A full A440 tuning — verified electronically and checked aurally. Every string, every octave, every unison. The foundation of piano care, and the most important thing you can do to protect the instrument's longevity and playability.
Required when a piano has drifted significantly below A440 — typically after two or more years without tuning. A pitch raise brings the whole instrument up to the correct pitch range first, so the fine tuning can hold properly. Without it, a severely flat piano cannot be tuned to standard in a single pass.
Our most recommended service — a comprehensive first visit that bundles tuning, pitch raise (if needed), regulation assessment and adjustments, deep cleaning, humidity evaluation, and a written condition report. Everything your piano needs to start fresh, in a single visit, for less than booking each service separately.
Repairs, Regulation & Voicing
Beyond tuning — how your piano feels and sounds.
Tuning addresses pitch. These services address the mechanics and tone of the instrument. All begin with a free consultation and honest assessment.
Regulation adjusts the mechanical action — the levers, hammers, and springs between your fingers and the strings. Over time these drift out of specification, causing uneven touch, sluggish response, and loss of dynamic control. Basic in-home regulation addresses the most common issues without removing the action from the piano.
A complete precision regulation of every note's touch and response — returned to true factory specification. The action is removed to the shop where every one of the 88 notes is individually measured and adjusted through multiple passes. The level of work that transforms how a piano plays.
Voicing adjusts the tone of the piano by treating the hammer felt. Hammers that have been played heavily develop grooves where they strike the strings — making the tone harsh, bright, or tinny. Needling restores resilience and warmth. One of the most cost-effective improvements for a piano that sounds harsh despite being in tune.
A thorough cleaning of the piano's interior — soundboard, strings, action components, hammers, and dampers — plus the keys and cabinet exterior. Different from the light cleaning included with every standard tuning. Especially valuable for inherited instruments, pianos in homes with pets, or any piano that hasn't been serviced in years.
All repairs begin with a free consultation. Davis will diagnose the issue and discuss costs clearly before any work begins. Common in-home repairs include sticky or broken keys, worn key bushings, broken strings, hammer repairs, pedal adjustments, damper issues, and keytop replacement.
A written assessment of the piano's current condition and fair market value. Useful for selling, buying, insurance, estate settlements, or deciding whether restoration makes financial sense. The $125 fee is credited toward any service work booked within two weeks.
Humidity Control · Piano Life Saver
South Carolina's climate is your
piano's greatest threat.
Greenwood's humidity swings 40–50% between seasons. A Piano Life Saver system maintains stable internal humidity year-round, automatically, inside the piano itself. Davis is a Certified Piano Life Saver Installer.
"The single best long-term investment a South Carolina piano owner can make — before the damage is done."
— Davis Moore, CPT · Certified Piano Life Saver InstallerThe Piano Life Saver system installed inside your upright piano — maintaining 45% relative humidity year-round regardless of seasonal changes in the room. Humidifier, dehumidifier, and humidistat work together automatically. Once installed, maintenance is minimal: refill the water reservoir every one to two weeks during dry months.
The Piano Life Saver system for grand pianos — installed beneath the soundboard, out of sight. Same automatic humidity control as the upright system, sized and configured for the grand's larger internal environment. Pricing varies by piano size and model. For owners of quality grand pianos in South Carolina, this is non-negotiable.

Why it matters who you call
What CPT certification
actually buys you.
Not a comparison. Not a sales pitch. Just an honest account of what professional certification, a personal relationship, and a real guarantee actually deliver.
Fewer callbacks
A properly trained technician tunes to a measurable standard — A440, verified electronically, checked aurally. The pitch holds longer because the work was done correctly. You shouldn't need to call back between scheduled visits.
Someone who actually answers
Moore Piano Services is one person. When you call or text, Davis answers — not a scheduling app, not a dispatcher. You get the same technician every single visit, who knows your piano's history and doesn't need it explained again.
Honest assessments, not upselling
CPT training means Davis knows what actually needs to be done. If your piano is in good shape, he'll say so and leave. Every recommendation comes with a clear explanation of why. No work is performed without your approval first.
The guarantee behind every visit
Every service is backed by a 100% satisfaction guarantee and $1,000,000 in general liability coverage. If something isn't right after a visit, Davis returns at no charge. That's not a policy exception — it's the standard.
"The difference between a certified technician and someone who tunes pianos as a side job isn't always audible on day one. It becomes clear six months later, when your piano is still in tune."
