Schomacker was a Philadelphia manufacturer founded in 1838, known for exceptional 19th and early 20th century craftsmanship and their patented "Gold String" wire process. The company became the flagship piano line of Wanamaker's department stores starting in 1899 and was favored by period notables including President Ulysses S. Grant.
Production ended in the early 1940s, making surviving examples genuinely antique. This particular instrument dates to approximately 1914–1915, confirmed via serial number, and has been substantially rebuilt: fully restrung, with the soundboard professionally repaired and the pinblock holding tension tightly.
It plays beautifully, with excellent pitch stability, responsive touch, and rich tone — zero broken or missing strings, zero sticking keys. The cabinet finish is high quality with only minor, surface-level cosmetic scratching that doesn't affect the wood or finish integrity.
